Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Tampa
On June 28, 2015, TampaBay.com reported that a motorcyclist was killed Saturday evening multi-vehicle crash on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, in Tampa.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in the far left lane ahead of another motorcyclist. A car traveling northbound attempted to make a left turn into an adjacent shopping plaza and turned directly into the path of the motorcyclist. The driver of the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the car and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. A second motorcycle was also involved in the crash and suffered road burns and injuries to his arms and legs and was transported to Florida Hospital.
Unfortunately, motorcycle accidents are common in the Tampa Bay area. According to the most recent Traffic Crash Facts Annual Report published by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were:
- 7,231 motorcyclists were injured in crashes
- 413 motorcyclists were killed
- 90 of the 413 fatalities occurred in Tampa Bay (Hillsborough, Pinellas, Hernando and Pasco counties)
